Foreign
Languages
-
Effective foreign language courses seek to imitate how we learn our native language.
-
Normal progression: listening, speaking, reading, writing (including spelling).
-
Foreign language courses are grammar driven, conversation driven or some combination.
-
Our conversational classes (K-6 and sometimes 7-8) - conversation driven.
-
Young children who are just learning to read and write in English should participate only with conversational Spanish.
-
High school, sadly often their first encounter with foreign language study, grammar must be included to fulfill expectations of Spanish I, Spanish II, Spanish III and Spanish IV designations.
-
Our high school students can earn credit through Academy Northwest (full time or one-credit option enrollment).
